SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc "Tibor (Ted) Benyovits is eight years old when he first joins the Zionist youth organization Hanoar Hatzioni. As World War II edges closer to his hometown of Budapest, Hungary, and restrictive laws on Jews begin, the youth group is his only outlet. Then, in 1944, Germany occupies Hungary and as his world falls apart and his family separates - his sisters into hiding, his brother and father into forced labour - Tibor's only saving grace is Hanoar Hatzioni. There, the group's resistance activities move underground and Tibor acts as a courier, delivering false identity papers to Jews in hiding in Budapest. Tibor witnesses the Arrow Cross fascist regime and the Budapest ghetto, all while living on the outside, helping as many people as he can. He copies protective papers, called Schutz-passe, and tells of the daring exploits of his group and their efforts to save Jews from the Nazis and the collaborationist Hungarian regime. After the war, Ted dreams of going to Israel, finally arriving there in 1949. He writes about his hopes and dreams, and his life in the army and with friends. Ted meets his wife, Miriam, and they immigrate to Toronto in 1962, where they still live."--
